The sixteen to seventeen hundreds were certainly a dangerous time to be out at sea, with enterprising criminals often taking advantage of vulnerable boats in transit and thus began Piracy as we all know it today.

While pirates of old are commonly romanticized and surrounded in myth and legend about mounds of gold and secret Island’s full of treasure, in reality pirates usually didn’t take much home during their often short and perilous careers.

With International talk like a pirate day fast approaching (Sept 19th) we thought it would be a bit of fun to look back at who exactly the greatest pirate of all time was, at least in terms of the fortune they plundered through the years.
