Importantly, when shipping to Denmark with our numerous road haulage options, we can also help with your customs clearance paperwork. This is something not all freight forwarding firms can offer but note that our operations team can combine customs clearance brokerage with extensive logistical prowess.

Shipping Times From UK to Denmark

How Long Does It Take to Ship to Denmark?

STANDARD ROAD FREIGHT TO DENMARK 2 - 7 DAYS

Road freight timings to Denmark are – on average – 5 to 7 days for groupage and 2 to 3 days for a full load transit. As your preferred freight forwarder, we can act as your Danish shipping company whether you want our low-cost groupage rates for less urgent deliveries or a standard full load consignment.

Bear in mind that groupage freight to Denmark is considerably more cost-effective than all other services but you will still obtain the same, door-to-door delivery service. Equally, our full load shipping to Denmark will mean picking up your consignment from any address in the mainland UK and having it on its way to its destination often within a matter of hours.

EXPRESS SHIPPING TO DENMARK 1 - 2 DAYS

With express freight delivered throughout the whole of Denmark handled in just 1 to 2 days, Barrington Freight is the first choice for many British exporters who trade with the Scandinavian country. Depending on where you are in the UK, we will send your goods to Denmark via France, Belgium, Germany or the Netherlands. Whichever route is chosen, we will plan your freight service so that the process is as speedy as possible without costing the earth.

We have been handling swift freight services to Denmark for years. With so much experience and great customer service, there is no better place to turn to when shipping goods to this part of Europe. For example, we keep a close eye on the traffic situation in northern Germany and Denmark. If it makes sense to re-route a driver to avoid a potential hold up, then we will do so. As such, we can make sure you get a fast delivery service to Denmark whether you have customers in Odense, Aarhus, Herning, Aalborg or the country’s capital city, Copenhagen.

NEXT-DAY ROAD FREIGHT TO DENMARK 24 HOURS

Are you looking for next-day delivery to Denmark? Well, we at Barrington Freight have what you are looking for. For larger loads, we have 7.5 tonne and even 18-tonne trucks with the capacity to hold larger haulage. For those looking to ship smaller items, we have dedicated Sprinter and Luton vans waiting which we can deploy with two drivers so that no delays are incurred en route since one driver can take over from the other when their shift ends.

In short, Barrington Freight is the premier freight forwarder when it comes to next-day delivery to Denmark. We have the expertise, the know-how and the equipment needed to carry out every delivery to the very highest of standards. Denmark Import Customs Requirements

Customs Considerations, VAT and Prohibited Items

VAT Denmark

To organise a delivery from Denmark to the UK, you will need to manage customs declarations, which will necessarily include VAT notices for most consumer items. In Denmark, VAT is known as “Moms” (Merværdiafgift). Danish VAT regulations align with EU standards, but there can be variations in their application to different kinds of goods. Since 1992, the standard VAT rate in Denmark has been 25%, consistent with some – but not all – EU countries.

Restrictions

Whether you are shipping to Denmark from the UK or importing goods from this EU country to Britain, an understanding of restricted goods will be beneficial for all importers and exporters. The following items may require additional paperwork before they can constitute any shipment of freight to Denmark (or vice versa).

  • Cultural and Historical Artifacts: Strict regulations on the export of items with significant cultural or historical value, including Viking-era artefacts and antiques, to preserve Denmark’s heritage.
  • Endangered Species and Products: Export of species and products regulated under CITES, focusing on Scandinavian wildlife and marine fauna.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Tight controls exist on the export of certain drugs and medications, particularly those classified as narcotics or psychotropic substances.
  • Alcoholic Beverages: Specific restrictions and duties on the export of traditional Danish spirits and liquors, such as Akvavit.
  • Agricultural Products: The cross-border movements of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and certain animal products are subject to stringent European Union and Danish regulations.
EORI Number Denmark

You will need an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) for the UK and any EU country you ship to and from alongside a range of other customs requirements. See our blog on what is an EORI Number? for more information.

Remember, too, that simply registering with HMRC as an importer of goods from Denmark will not be sufficient – on its own – to be able to use Danish suppliers.

Barrington Freight operates as a customs clearance agency as well as a team of expert freight forwarders, so we can help you with all of these matters if you need us to, whether you’re importing or exporting. We have the necessary licensing arrangements in place to oversee exported goods from the UK to Denmark which has the same regulations in place as every other EU state. Therefore, we can help with multiple consignment deliveries that might include some in Denmark, and some in other countries, such as those in France, Spain or Italy, for instance.

Shipping Routes to Denmark from the UK

Denmark is a land of many islands, but are well served with good road connections across the main five regions of Hovedstaden, Midtjylland, Nordjylland, Sjælland and Syddanmark including the European expressways E20, E39, E45, E47 and E55, with tunnels and bridges spanning the sea channels. Areas we serve include Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Frederiksberg, Esbjerg, Gentofte, Gladsaxe, Randers, Kolding, Horsens, Lyngby-Taarbaek, Hvidovre, Vejle, Roskilde, Helsingør, Herning, Silkeborg, Tarnby, Næstved, Greve Strand and many others.

The best transit times are typically achieved via Eurotunnel or the Channel Ferries via France, Belgium, or Germany. There are also direct ferry sailings between the UK port of Harwich and Esbjerg in the centre-west of the Danish peninsula. This 18-hour sea journey gives yet another option depending on the load in transit.

Danish road freight from Esbjerg port on the west coast takes less than three hours to reach Copenhagen. Even though the capital is in the east of the country, there is a single expressway, the E20, that makes the journey smooth and speedy thanks to the “Nye Lillebaeltsbro” (New Little Belt Bridge) and “Storebaelt Forbindelsen” (Great Belt Fixed Link Bridge). Both span the Little Belt sea channel between Jutland and Funen, and the Great Belt sea channel between the islands of Funen and Zealand, providing fast and efficient east-west.

Here are some routes we may use for shipping to Denmark depending on the nature of the load and the location from where it will be sent. Acting as your Danish shipping company, we keep an eye on any potential delays and will re-route when it is appropriate to do so.

Where is Denmark located?

Denmark is in Northern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, on a peninsula north of Germany (Jutland); it also includes two major islands (Sjaelland and Fyn). To the east lies Sweden, separated by a short stretch of water, and connected by the Oresund Bridge.

Harwich – Esbjerg (Ferry) – Denmark

  1. Direct ferry route from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark via the A120 in Essex.
  2. Helps to avoid road travel and potential delays in the Low Countries and Germany.

Dover – Calais – Belgium – Germany – Denmark

  1. Ferry from Dover to Calais in France, ideal for consignments from southern England.
  2. Travelling through Belgium and then entering Germany.
  3. Proceeding north through Germany to cross into Denmark.

Hull – Rotterdam (Ferry) – Netherlands – Germany – Denmark

  1. Ferry from Hull to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
  2. Driving through the Netherlands and entering Germany via the A1.
  3. Heading north through Germany to reach Denmark or taking the E47 from Hamburg for eastern Denmark.
