International Freight to Cyprus

Road freight to Cyprus can be more problematic than it is with other EU countries since the island was partitioned in 1974 following the Turkish invasion. Today, the Republic of Cyprus has sovereignty over the island and its surrounding waters. It controls the southern area, while the north is Turkish-controlled and is correctly referred to as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or TRNC. With the north only recognised by Turkey, a UN Buffer Zone separates the two regions. For many, TRNC is considered to be an occupied territory. This has severe implications for freight forwarding as the Turkish Cypriot ports of Famagusta and Kyrenia are closed to international traffic. The only internationally permitted shipping routes from Northern Cyprus are via mainland Turkey. Cargo to and from the UK and Northern Cyprus can be couriered through Turkey but it cannot be forwarded to the Republic, the southern part of the island, from the north.

Barrington Freight operates as experienced freight forwarders to both sides of the island. This means that we can help to convey goods to both “Kuzey Kibris Turk Cumhuriyeti” (as the TRNC is known on the Turkish mainland) as well as the Republic. Our team of professional freight forwarders have the necessary knowledge and professionalism to export and import goods successfully whether you are dealing with northern or southern Cyprus.

Streamlined Freight Forwarding to Cyprus

By working with local partner depots in Turkey and Northern Cyprus, we can ensure your groupage to TRNC reaches all five districts in the region: Girne, Guselyurt, Gazimagusa, Lefkosa and Iskele. We also deliver to individual cities and towns including North Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Morphou, Gonyeli, Lapithos, Kythrea, Lefka, Dikomo and Trikomo, among others. We offer express, economic pallet delivery as well as bespoke haulage and budget-friendly groupage from the UK to Cyprus. You can work with Barrington Freight with the confidence of getting a top-quality service since we are the preferred freight forwarder to Turkish Northern Cyprus of so many British firms today.

Not withstanding the importance of the north, freight to the officially recognised Republic of Cyprus in the south makes up the bulk of Cypriot consignments today. Our route options benefit from international port facilities at Limassol and Larnaca, both of which are served from Lavrio Port in Greece. We also offer groupage consolidation from a selection of other regional ports, whether you’re after an express service for a rapid delivery or budget pallet consignment that is less time-sensitive. We can ship printer pallets, plastic pallets and wooden pallets plus Euro or UK pallet sizes. Furthermore, we have the local know-how to arrange for shrink wrap and stretch wrap consignments as well as cartons, skids, stillages and cages plus part-load or full-load shipments.

The motorways in the Republic of Cyprus ensure swift logistical transportation. The A1 runs from Nicosia to Limassol, for example, while the A2 forms a connection to A1 near Pera Chorio. Meanwhile, the A3 connects Larnaca with Ayia Napa and the A5 connects to A1 near Kofinou. The A6 runs from Paphos to Limassol and the A9 connects Nicosia to Astromeritis. Furthermore, there are two international airports in southern Cyprus, one at Larnaca and one at Paphos. Both function as air freight hubs. That said, air freight services to Cyprus can be expensive compared to the road freight alternatives. Even for urgent express services, we can offer competitive road freight as well as timed delivery options that may be much faster than you had imagined.

Freight to the Republic of Cyprus is more straightforward these days thanks to the south’s historical links with the UK. It was under British administration until it gained independence in 1960. There are still two British Overseas Territories (Akrotiri and Dhekelia) with Sovereign Military Bases in the area. As a significant British tourist destination, the demand is high for UK consumer items and imports. Typically, imported goods are made up of citrus fruit, cement, potatoes, clothing and pharmaceuticals, among others.

Cyprus became an EU member in 2004 and entered the Eurozone in 2008, something that was an undoubted stimulus trade with the UK in recent times. Post-Brexit, this relationship has remained strong even though there are additional shipping requirements to take into consideration whether you are importing or exporting. The good news is that the same exact customs requirements apply when shipping to Cyprus as they do for the rest of the EU. This includes things like EORI numbers for both sides and making customs declarations for all goods. Both of these examples are matters that Barrington Freight can assist you with given our prowess with customs clearance work as well as freight forwarding.

Whether you need frequent express services, a one-off cheap pallet delivery, custom or bespoke haulage to Northern Cyprus, or something like an economy groupage service for your cargo, Barrington Freight is the preferred freight forwarder to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We will work with local partners in Turkey and Northern Cyprus to coordinate deliveries to all five districts in the north. Please note that the same goes for our services to the Republic of Cyprus in the south, too. Whatever kind of delivery service you need and whichever side you are shipping to, we make road freight to Cyprus easy!

Road Freight Transit Times to Cyprus from the UK

Cypriot road freight deliveries are subject to change due to the particular location where they will be collected from or delivered to. Furthermore, environmental and customs factors can play their part, as well. Nevertheless, we work hard to provide consistency with our delivery times. For groupage, something like 22-24 days can be expected. Speak to our team if you need a faster transit time since this can be arranged for you.
