Road freight to Cyprus can be problematic than other EU countries with the island partition since 1974 post the Turkish invasion. The Republic of Cyprus has sovereignty over the island and surrounding waters. It controls the southern area, while the north is Turkish-controlled and calls itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or TRNC and is recognised only by Turkey. A UN Buffer Zone separates the two regions, and TRNC is considered occupied territory. This has severe implications for freight forwarding as the Turkish Cypriot ports of Famagusta and Kyrenia are closed to international traffic. The only internationally permitted shipping routes from Northern Cyprus are via mainland Turkey. Cargo to and from the UK and Northern Cyprus can be couriered through Turkey but cannot be forwarded to the Republic.
Barrington Freight are experienced freight forwarders to both sides of the island, both to “Kuzey Kibris Turk Cumhuriyeti” (as the TRNC is known on the Turkish mainland) and the Republic. We have the knowledge and professionalism to export and import successfully to both northern and southern Cyprus.
By working with local partner depots in Turkey and Northern Cyprus, we can ensure your groupage to TRNC reaches all the five districts: Girne, Guselyurt, Gazimagusa, Lefkosa and Iskele. We also deliver cities and towns, including North Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Morphou, Gonyeli, Lapithos, Kythrea, Lefka, Dikomo, and Trikomo. We offer express, economic pallet delivery, bespoke haulage, or budget-friendly groupage from the UK to Cyprus. You can work with Barrington Freight confidently as we are the preferred freight forwarder to Turkish Northern Cyprus.
Freight to the officially recognised Republic of Cyprus in the south is the bulk of Cypriot consignments. Our route benefits from international port facilities at Limassol and Larnaca from Lavrio Port in Greece. We also offer groupage consolidation from a selection of other regional ports, whether you’re after a fast express service or budget pallet delivery. We can ship printer pallets, plastic pallets, wooden pallets, euro or UK pallet sizes, shrink wrap, stretch wrap, cartons, skids, stillages, cages, part load or full load.
The motorways in the Republic of Cyprus ensure swift logistical transportation: the A1 Nicosia to Limassol, A2 connection to A1 near Pera Chorio with A3 by Larnaca, A3 Larnaca to Ayia Napa, A5 connects A1 near Kofinou with A3 by Larnaca, A6 Paphos to Limassol, and A9 Nicosia to Astromeritis. There are also two international airports at Larnaca and Paphos, both air freight hubs; however, air freight to Cyprus can be expensive compared to road freight. Even for urgent express services, we can offer competitive road freight and timed delivery options.
Freight to the Republic of Cyprus is more straightforward as it was under British administration until independence in 1960. There are still two British Overseas Territories (Akrotiri and Dhekelia) with Sovereign Military Bases in the areas. As a significant British tourist destination, the demand is high for UK consumer items and imports, including citrus fruit, cement, potatoes, clothing, and pharmaceuticals. Cyprus became an EU member in 2004 and entered the Eurozone in 2008, which was an encouragement for trade with the UK. Post-Brexit, this relationship has remained strong, even though there are additional shipping requirements. The same exact customs requirements apply when shipping to Cyprus as to the rest of the EU, including EORI numbers for both sides and customs declarations.
Whether you need express services, cheap pallet delivery, custom/ bespoke haulage to Northern Cyprus, or economy groupage services for your cargo Barrington Freight is the preferred freight forwarder to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We work with local partners in Turkey and Northern Cyprus to coordinate delivery to all five districts, including Girne, Guselyurt, Gazimagusa, Lefkosa and Iskele. We deliver to all cities and towns, including North Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Morphou, Gonyeli, Lapithos, Kythrea, Lefka, Dikomo, and Trikomo. Whichever side you are shipping to, we make road freight to Cyprus easy!
Cyprus road freight delivery is subject to change due to location, environmental, and customs factors. We do, however, work hard to consistently provide delivery times of 22-24 days for groupage. Speak to our team if you need a faster transit time.
