Customs Requirements to Poland

As Poland is a member of the European Union, a UK and EU EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) must be presented to border agencies to get goods through customs. Read our blog What is an EORI Number for more information on applying.

Further customs paperwork is a possible requirement depending on the cargo being sent, so be sure to research if any additional information needs to be provided to clear your goods. Your shipment will face delays and fees without these, so be prepared. For more details, visit the UK government advisory page to get started.

Polish VAT and Duty Considerations

VAT in Poland is known as Podatek od towarów i usług and is payable on imports to the country. Customs duties must be paid for shipping from any “third countries” to the EU, but the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement means tariff-free trade is available if the goods can be proved to have been manufactured or originated from the UK and sworn to in a customs declaration. The same applies to cargo shipping in the opposite direction from the EU to the UK if it has an EU origin. Some goods are excluded, so do your research on what you plan to send to discover if you are liable for any additional costs.

Who Should Make the Declaration?

Customs declarations must be completed correctly with the relevant information to ship with ease. The hassle and trouble for non-compliance include goods being stuck at the border while incurring fees. You can fill out the declaration on behalf of your business, but we would recommend hiring an experienced professional. Select someone who has extensive Import declaration experience to oversee the process and ensure it is smooth and easy. We have in-house agents who can help with documentation if you choose to ship with Barrington Freight.

Special Licences and Certificates

Depending on the goods you send, special licenses and certificates are required on both the EU and UK sides. You must know what they are for your specific goods before sending your shipment to avoid delays and problems at the borders.

We are friendly, easy to work with, honest and we do not charge the earth.
