Cost-effective deliveries from Europe and across the Globe
Times have changed since Brexit and COVID hit the EU and UK hard. While Brexit means more paperwork, red tape, and customs obligations, COVID has increased imports and exports from the continent, and Barrington Freight is still reliably shipping daily across the channel.
Importing from EU to the UK
Working with us still makes sending a breeze despite additional regulations, all of which we are happy to help you navigate. Our team is always on standby to ensure importing your goods into the UK from the EU is as straightforward and stress-free as possible and provide a professional service from your shipment.
We always suggest working with a freight company to ensure you understand and fulfil all obligations before sending so your shipment will sail through customs. You will avoid hidden pitfalls in the process that cause delays. Our list below will get you started importing from the EU quickly and easily.
Customs Requirements: EU to the UK
The European Union requires the use of its own EU EORI when goods leave the country, and the UK version is necessary for the goods to enter the UK. These numbers have additional customs requirements for shipments, and failure to comply with these will mean the consignment will not pass the borders, officials will halt goods, delay delivery, or possibly they will be denied entry to the UK altogether. Visit: What is an EORI number to get started.
Additional paperwork is also needed to get goods to pass through customs, and these declarations are specific to the interests being shipped. The need to complete this documentation correctly cannot be overstated. It is vital that your goods clear customs, and not doing so will mean delayed shipments, accrual of fees, and a cut into your profit margin. Visit the UK government advisory page for further information.
Import Requirements
Declaration for Customs
Customs declarations must be precisely completed as mistakes will most certainly delay shipment and mean additional charges. You can complete your paperwork yourself, but hiring an expert is always preferable as their extensive experience will save time, energy and money, and they will get things right the first time. We have several experts in-house when you work with Barrington Freight for your consignment.
Duties and VAT
Duties and VAT to the UK from the EU are calculated as any country outside the trading bloc. The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement has allowed some tariff-free items when manufactured in the sender country, so research whether your shipment and cargo qualify.
Licences and Certificates
Special licenses and certification are often required, particularly if your items are on a restricted list you may see goods stuck at the border.
Importing from Europe to the UK may seem complicated post-Brexit, but working with our experienced team to oversee your shipment will guarantee a stress-free and professional experience every time.
