Importing from Finland to the UK

Finland is one of the most northern and remote countries on the planet and, as such, has a severe climate with nearly two-thirds blanketed by thick woodlands. Helsinki, the country’s capital, is a hub of economic activity through which many Finnish imports flow.

Finland is a digitalisation leader, shown through its services across so many sectors, including Finland’s lively start-up sector, a leading developer of AI, new technologies and online platforms. Beyond its service sector, Finland creates many components, raw materials and finished products ready to export to the UK. The government’s focus on strengthening trade means Finnish products are great to import to the UK as consumers are keen on high-quality tech innovations and products.

Our team coordinates with Finnish firms and manages customs procedures, when necessary, to provide a seamless import experience.

How Has Brexit Altered the Importation Process From Finland?

From 1 January 2021, Finnish imports must be declared to customs. British businesses now are under the same rules, restrictions and customs formalities as any other “third country”. One requirement is an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) required at each border – one for the UK and another for the EU. Our blog, What is an EORI Number has more. Your consignment type will also define your customs paperwork, so research and take advice from a customs agent.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Barrington Freight handled our first import from China and made a complicated job feel simple. Simon Poole guided us through the customs paperwork, postponed VAT and commodity codes patiently, answering a great many questions from someone importing for the first time. Our delivery address is a narrow street with no forklift, and he arranged a smaller vehicle with a tail-lift so the crates could be offloaded by hand without difficulty. The shipment cleared ahead of schedule and, once we'd paid, delivery was arranged for the very next day with a time window confirmed in advance. Excellent communication throughout and genuinely helpful. Highly recommended.

Right before arrival, an issue came up due to a mistake from the airline, which could have turned into a real headache. Simon picked it up straight away, dealt with it quickly and managed to sort everything without any extra costs on our side.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Good service during a turbulent global shipping period. Special thanks goes to Lee for his efficiency and proactive updates and for rescheduling a delivery in less than 24hrs when the haulage company didn’t read their own paperwork and sent a lorry without the requested tail lift. Highly recommended.
