All goods are then shipped at the earliest possible opportunity.
Palletised freight to “Eesti Vabariik” – the Estonian for the Republic of Estonia – is of course our mainstay business-to-business cargo. We welcome both Euro and UK pallets, for which we have negotiated very special competitive rates which we pass on to our valued customers in the UK. From our base of operations in Essex, we can act as an express courier to Estonia or deal with oversized cargoes that need to be shipped from the Baltic state back to the UK. Shipping to Estonia from the UK
Thanks to our near-constant contact with our drivers, we can make sure you receive updates about the progress of your shipments to Estonia while they’re in transit from the UK. As such, you will be able to keep your Estonian clients informed about when they can expect their orders to arrive.
At Barrington Freight, we are also able to act on your behalf as a customs clearance agent. This service is offered alongside our freight forwarding work when arranging an Estonian delivery of commercial goods. This service complements our operational one and is ideal for exportation firms that need help in an often technically challenging area. If your company is new to exporting, has only just started to find a market in Estonia or simply doesn’t have the staff available to spare on customs clearance work, then mention this when organising your shipment. Bear in mind that we provide customs clearance work in-house and don’t sub-contract it so the entire service can be wrapped up together as a true business solution.
Furthermore, as members of the British International Freight Association, you can be sure that you will receive great service from us. In fact, we have been dealing with shipments throughout the European Union for decades. When shipping to Estonia, we can arrange for the collection of your goods from any location in the country. Even better, we have a nationwide network of drivers we can call upon so you can expect your consignment to be collected in just a few hours for express shipments whether your business is located in the Scottish Highlands or in the depths of the West Country.

If you have really urgent Baltic freight requirements, then our dedicated express courier vans to Europe will be exactly right for you! We make sure your goods are not held up on their way to Estonia by monitoring the roads in central and eastern Europe. Although the motorway system in Germany and Poland is good and allows for express deliveries to be made to Estonia without any delays, we make sure our drivers are notified of any potential jams. If required, we will route your delivery so that setbacks are avoided. We also keep a careful eye on the traffic conditions in Lithuania and Latvia because, of course, your delivery will pass through both countries on its way to its final destination in Estonia.

Customs Considerations, VAT and Prohibited Items
VAT ESTONIA
When shipping from Estonia to the UK by road, VAT declarations will have to be considered. HMRC will expect them for nearly all commercial imports from the country. In Estonia, VAT is known as “Käibemaks” (KM). Some businesses might be able to apply a zero VAT rate on goods they export to the UK, provided specific conditions are met. Estonian VAT regulations adhere to EU guidelines but there can be unique variances in the application of these regulations so it is worth checking. The standard VAT rate in Estonia is 22%.
Goods or Services | VAT Rate Estonia |
---|---|
Standard taxable goods and services | 22% |
Reduced Rate goods and services (e.g. printed books) | 9% |
Second Reduced Rated products (e.g. printed newspapers) | 5% |
Zero Rated goods and services (e.g. exported goods) | 0% |
Restrictions
Some goods have further restrictions placed on them either for import or export which may require additional paperwork of licensing. For example:
- Alcoholic Beverages: Specific regulations and excise duties on the export and import cover traditional Estonian alcoholic beverages, like Vana Tallinn liqueur.
- Wood and Timber Products: Due to Estonia’s extensive forests, there are special regulations on the export of wood and timber products to promote sustainable forestry practices.
- Electronic Equipment and Cybersecurity Products: Given Estonia’s relatively high prominence in digital technology and cybersecurity, there are regulations on the export of certain advanced electronic and digital equipment.
- Peat and Peat Products: Estonia, with its significant peat bogs, has specific regulations on the export of peat and peat-based products, aiming to ensure sustainable use and environmental protection.
- Baltic Sea Fish and Seafood: Special controls and quotas on the export of fish and seafood sourced from the Baltic Sea, reflect efforts to manage marine resources and protect the local ecosystem.
EORI Number Estonia
You will need an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) for the UK and any EU country you ship to and from alongside a range of other customs requirements. See our blog on what is an EORI Number? for more information.
Remember, too, that simply registering with HMRC as an importer of goods from Estonia will not be sufficient – on its own – to be able to use Estonian suppliers.
Barrington Freight operates as a customs clearance agency as well as a team of expert freight forwarders, so we can help you with all of these matters if you need us to, whether you’re importing or exporting. We have the necessary licensing arrangements in place to oversee exported goods from the UK to Estonia which has the same regulations in place as every other EU state. Therefore, we can help with multiple consignment deliveries that might include some in Estonia and some in other countries, such as those in France, Spain or Belgium, for instance.

Where is Estonia Located?
