Importing Goods Via Sea Freight from Ahmedabad
At Barrington Freight, we provide professional services to all UK importers who would like goods shipped cost-effectively to the British Isles from Ahmedabad Port (INAMD). Also sometimes referred to as Ahmadabad Port, this is an inland container hub located on the Sabarmati River to the north of the Gulf of Khambhat which offers convenient access for ocean-going vessels to get to the Arabian Sea as they make their onward journeys to Europe via the Suez Canal. As such, shipments from the port are ideal for getting imports from eastern Gujarat state, in west-central India, to the UK. Consequently, along with Mumbai and Mundra, Ahmedabad constitutes one of the most significant places for British companies to find Indian suppliers in the western part of the sub-continent.
Unlike some of the other major urban centres in western India, Ahmedabad is not just a port city. It is also positioned strategically between Mumbai and central India as well as the Kathiawar Peninsula and the Rajasthan border. This makes it something of an economic hotspot, not least for the production of textiles. Since the city also serves as a major junction on the Western Railway network of India, the city’s port is at the centre of a regional and international transportation hub. A fast-moving port with a raft of professional services, Ahmedabad Port handles in excess of six million shipments each year for goods leaving the country. Along with textiles, the primary cargo that passes through the port is sporting equipment, including balls and pumps.
Although it is possible to air freight goods from Ahmedabad directly to the UK, container shipments – whether they are procured as full loads or shared among groupage imports – that pass to the UK via the Gulf of Aden and the Mediterranean Sea offer great value for money. Typically, shipments made by sea from western India will take around 21 days to arrive in Britain but this can vary.
