Below is a list, so you know what to expect when importing to the UK from France.
Check the Regulations from France
It is imperative to know if there are any restrictions on your products entering the UK that will see them being stopped or held up at the border now that there are more reasons to do so as a non-EU country. To find the correct information for your products, use this handy government tool here for professional advice, speak to your freight forwarding company, or give us a call.
Import Requirements
Get Both EORI Numbers
You will require an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification Number) for the UK and a separate one for the European Union. Your goods cannot cross the borders without these being organised, and you will face delays and fees with the goods still not being able to clear customs. For more information, visit the government advisory page.
Additional paperwork is also a new requirement, and declarations must be made depending on what goods are being shipped. Completing this documentation correctly is vital – this cannot be overstated. Delayed shipments waste time and cost money.
Taxation
The UK and France currently have a double taxation agreement, so you cannot be taxed twice on the same income. If a company is UK registered for VAT, it is possible to zero-rate goods if conditions are met. We recommend researching this or having an agent take care of it. VAT is known as Taxe sur la Valeur Ajoutée (TVA) in France at a standard 20% rate.
Decide Who Will Make the Export Declaration
Either hire an agent for your import declarations or DIY, but you must educate yourself on the requirements, either way, to ensure there are no or minimal delays. We can help if you need an agent for your customs documentation and can complete everything required to get your goods cleared quickly while we also help you ship your freight.
We are friendly, easy to work with, honest and we do not charge the earth.
