Road Freight Exports to Turkey

Road freight haulage to Turkey offers one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways of shipping goods to the Anatolian peninsula. Because Turkey, more properly now called the Republic of Türkiye, lies both in Europe and Asia, it is uniquely placed to receive road shipments from the UK. Typically, goods will be driven to the English Channel where they’ll transfer to continental Europe via a suitable ferry service. From ports in western Europe, drivers can head to the European part of Turkey with plenty of different route options.

Here at Barrington Freight, we stay in constant contact with our lorry drivers to advise them of any potential hold ups they might encounter while they are making their way to Turkey. If the commonly used route via Serbia and Sofia in Bulgaria is subject to delays, for example, then we can tell them it’d be better to take the E90 trunk road in Greece, connecting to it by passing through North Macedonia or Albania. Once the goods have entered Turkey through border towns like Erdine, it is only about three hours by road to Istanbul where lorries can cross into Asia and the rest of Turkey beyond the Bosphorus.

Indeed, from Istanbul, all of the major cities of Turkey are within a reasonable drive. Turkey may be a large country but the capital city, Ankara, is only about five hours away from Istanbul via the E80 and E89 motorways. An industrial city like Eskişehir can be reached within four hours of passing into Asia. Mersin, on the southern coast of Turkey, is usually possible to reach within six hours from Ankara. Therefore, with a good road network and telecommunications coverage, getting goods to any location in Turkey as well as being able to track progress is certainly possible by road. Therefore, it is one of the best options for British exportation firms.

Road Freight to Turkey

Shipments designated for Turkey from the UK take 5-7 days for groupage, 3-4 days for full or partial loads, or 2-3 days express delivery. If perhaps your cargo needs faster delivery, give our team a call to discuss options.

Dealing With Customs Officials

When exporting to Turkey, UK-based firms will need to ensure they have made the right declaration with British customs prior to their consignment leaving the country. We can help you with this process if you are unused to it or currently use a customs clearance broker. This additional service is offered in-house by members of the same team as our freight forwarders for added value and efficiency.

What’s more, we can process your EU customs declarations for when the goods pass into the EU and exit it once more to enter Turkey in southeastern Europe. As members of the British International Freight Association, you can trust us to ensure that your exports to Turkey will be handled professionally at every stage of their journey.
