Throughout each year, there are various peak times for shipping that threaten to make the entire delivery line skid to a standstill. Delayed deliveries, damaged cargo and talk of theft being rife are all hot topics at this time of year, and it can be tempting to forgo the shipping process entirely when they roll around. However, there’s no need to fret when it comes to shipping during peak times. Here at Barrington Freight we are passionate about ensuring that your shipments get from A to B in good time and perfect condition and to help you with this process, we’ve pulled together a few tips and things you need to know about sending your cargo during peak times.

Plan Ahead

We cannot stress enough just how important it is to plan ahead when it comes to shipping. If you have the choice, it’s better to ship outside of peak times simply to gain extra peace of mind that your cargo will arrive in good time. Manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers will all be shipping around peak times, and usually in high volumes and sometimes delays are simply out of our control. Plan ahead, ship away from peak times if you can, or give plenty of advance notice where possible if you can’t.

Cargo Is At Higher Risk

During peak times, cargo is unfortunately at higher risk than any other time of the year. Theft, damage, loss and delays are all potential issues that will need to be dealt with, and being prepared for this is paramount for a successful delivery. While we will do our best to ensure your goods arrive in good condition, thoughtful packaging, secure containers or tracked shipping and cargo insurance can all allow you to rest assured that your goods are safe during their journey.

Be Flexible

If you can be flexible, then be flexible. It’ll pay off not only in ensuring that your cargo is delivered safely, but it could even save you money. It’s no secret that cargo can often be more expensive during peak times, and while here at Barrington Freight we do our best to keep costs as low as possible, this is still something you need to take into consideration. Be flexible with where you’re willing for your shipment to go, as longer or round-about routes could even have your items arriving in better time than the usual fast route.

Get Insurance

While insurance is advisable no matter the time of year, taking out some kind of freight insurance during peak times is paramount to protect you and your shipments. If something were to get damaged or lost, and potentially even when something is late, you could cover any potential resulting monetary losses. It’s worth taking a look at the insurance on offer for your shipments just for that extra peace of mind.

Peak times can be stressful when it comes to shipping, but they don’t have to be. No matter whether it’s Christmas, Black Friday, Cyber Monday or any other peak time, getting your shipments from their starting point to the finish in one piece, good condition and in optimal time is no longer impossible.
